The contract has no fixed date.

The remark that Nobel and Company have a

Magazine of their own in Hongkong is misleading. The Magazine on One Tree Island belongs to them and is under the control of

their Agents, Messrs. Jardine, Matheson and Company, Limited.

Nobel and Company have no Branch Office out here only an

Agency. This information I have got from Messrs. Jardine, Matheson and Company, Limited, who also told me that the prices

quoted by Messrs. Nobel and Company to the Crown Agents direct

were greater than those charged by them here, owing to my contract having been arranged when the prices of raw material

were lower than at present.

They also told me that if Nobel and Company

quoted direct to the Crown Agents, Messrs. Jardine, Matheson

and Company would get their commission all the same and that

the order would probably come out to them to supply from the

magazine on One Tree Island.

Quinine is obtained through Crown Agents.
